Say you direct the pilot of a TV show.  The show gets picked up and becomes successful, but you don’t direct anymore episodes.  Because you directed the pilot you will still get paid for every episode aired of that show.

And people think the writers are greedy for asking for a few more cents?  The distribution of wealth in this country is very unfair, even just looking within one industry.
